Khulna University (KU) will inaugurate its newly constructed main gate, named Shaheed Mir Mughdo Toron, on Sunday in honor of former KU student Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdo, who was martyred during the July 2024 uprising.
Farida Akhter, Adviser to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, will inaugurate the gate at noon as the chief guest.
Following the ceremony, she will attend a discussion meeting on the KU campus, presided over by KU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim.
Distinguished guests expected at the event include Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid, VC of Jessore University of Science and Technology; Professor Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan, VC of Khulna Agricultural University; Professor Dr Md Harun-or-Rashid Khan, Pro-VC of KU; Professor Dr Md Nurunnabi, Treasurer of KU; and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snighdo, Chief Executive of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation.
Mughdo, a former student of KU’s Mathematics Discipline, was shot and killed on July 18 while distributing water to students protesting in Uttara’s Azampur area in Dhaka.
His sacrifice is being commemorated through this tribute at his alma mater.
