A woman and her daughter were stabbed to death at their house in Shabgram, Sadar upazila of Bogra district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Anwara Begum, 58 and her daughter, Sakina Begum, 35.
Quoting family members, Nazmul Haque, in charge of Naruli police camp, said that Sakina had divorced her first husband, Badsha Mia, and married Rubel six years ago.
However, due to Rubel’s drug addiction, she left his house and started living with her mother, Anwara, and her son, Sabbir (from her first husband), in Akashtala, a neighborhood in the town.
One month ago, Sakina remarried her ex-husband, Badsha Mia.
Upon hearing the news, Rubel became furious. He entered Sakina’s house and attacked her with a sharp weapon, leaving her injured.
Anwara sustained injuries while trying to save her daughter, Nazmul added.
Both Sakina and Anwara were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, where Sakina succumbed to her injuries at around 1:30am, and Anwara passed away at around 11am on Saturday.
Police visited the scene and recovered the sharp weapon believed to have been used in the attack, said Nazmul.
