Police have detained two individuals suspected of involvement in the robbery of four school trip buses in Ghatail, Tangail.

The suspects were picked up on Wednesday morning, but they have not yet been officially arrested. Law enforcement authorities stated that after interrogation, if their involvement is confirmed, they will be formally charged.

The headmaster of Soaitpur High School, Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, filed a case regarding the incident on Tuesday night at 11:45pm. Several teams from the police and Detective Branch (DB) have already been deployed to track down and arrest those responsible.

The robbery took place in the early hours of Tuesday, when four buses carrying students, teachers, and guardians from Soaitpur High School in Fulbaria, Mymensingh, were on their way to Natore for an educational trip.

Around 4:15am, a group of robbers blocked the Ghatail-Sagardighi road near Lakkhaner Badh by placing logs across the street, forcing the buses to stop. The criminals then stormed the vehicles and looted cash, gold jewelry, and mobile phones from the passengers.

A call was made to the national emergency number 999, prompting the police to respond, but by the time they arrived, the robbers had already fled.

After completing their trip, the school authorities filed a case at Ghatail Police Station, naming 10 to 12 unidentified individuals as suspects.

According to the complaint, the robbers took at least 10 mobile phones and over Tk1 lakh from the victims. Tangail Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mizanur Rahman was present at the police station when the case was officially filed.

Ghatail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakibul Islam said: “Multiple teams from both the local police and the DB are working on identifying and arresting the suspects using technology and informants.”

Inspector (Investigation) Sajal Khan, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that two individuals had been detained on Wednesday morning for questioning.
