The incident took place on Friday evening in Paschim Joypur village of Mirpur union in the upazila.
The deceased, Minara Khatun, 35, was an assistant teacher at Mirpur Pilot School and College and the wife of Abdul Ahad Ibn Malek, the former secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Bahubal unit and the president of the Workers' Welfare Federation's Bahubal unit.
Abdul Ahad said that after attending a government program for International Mother Language Day and a Rokon meeting in Habiganj, he returned home in the evening to find the door open and the house lights off.
Upon turning on the light, he saw his seven-month-old child lying under the bed and his wife, Minara Khatun, with stab wounds on the bed.
Upon receiving the news, Habiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) ANM Sazedur Rahman, Bahubal Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gias Uddin, and Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam visited the scene.
Regarding the incident, SP Sazedur Rahman said: "If someone were stabbed while alive, there would be a significant amount of blood. However, we did not find such an amount of blood at the scene. Initially, it does not seem that the cause of death was stabbing. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy."
OC Zahidul Islam added: "The body has been sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy."
