  • VC accused students of mistreatment, students denied claims
  • February 18 clashes injured over fifty students
Update : 22 Feb 2025, 12:57 PM

The students announced on Friday evening, after the 'Roktakto Kuet' exhibition, that they had marched and locked the main gate of the Vice Chancellor’s residence, and the Kuet Public Relations Department confirmed that the VC's residence remained locked at 12pm on Saturday, mentioning that the VC lived alone in the residence and was in Dhaka for treatment.

General students of Kuet said: "We originally had six demands. The syndicate meeting strategically ignored some of them, which we completely reject. Our protest will continue until all demands are met."

On Friday at 8pm, students locked the residence of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Masud.

The agitated students said: "There have been false allegations that we mistreated the VC. This is completely untrue. We treated him with respect. No one can provide any evidence or video showing that we physically harmed him."

They further said: "The syndicate had previously instructed strict enforcement of the student politics ban. However, it is not being followed. This issue must be implemented seriously through an administrative order."

Notably, on February 18, clashes erupted multiple times among students over the demand to ban student politics at Kuet.

More than 50 students were injured in the conflict, most suffering wounds from sharp weapons. The injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, Kuet Medical Centre, and nearby private clinics.

Following the incident, five individuals were arrested. On the night of February 18, students held a press conference demanding the resignation of the Vice Chancellor and issued five demands.

As their demands were not met, on February 19 at 1:30pm, students locked the administrative and academic buildings.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor was confined to the medical centre from 4pm on February 18.

He was finally freed at 5:15pm on February 19. While in confinement, he attended and presided over the emergency syndicate meeting online.
