For the first time, a consignment of wheat imported from Argentina has been unloaded at Mongla, the country’s second-largest seaport.
According to Abdus Sobhan Sardar, assistant controller of the Mongla Food Controller Office, the vessel carrying 50,200 metric tons (MT) of wheat initially docked at Chittagong Port.
There, 30,120MT of wheat were unloaded, while the remaining quantity was scheduled for unloading at Mongla.
The vessel arrived at Mongla Port on Friday, and unloading activities commenced on Saturday afternoon following a physical inspection of the wheat, the official said.
Of the total unloaded wheat, 13,080MT will be stored at the port, while the rest will be distributed to Barisal, Khulna, Rajbari, and other regions across the country, he added.
