The convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah has said that they did not want a Bangladesh governed by incompetent rulers or one plagued by corruption, looting, violence, enforced disappearances, and murders.

He made these remarks on Friday night at the 77th annual Esaale Sawaab gathering of the historic Dhamati Darbar Sharif in Debidwar, Comilla.

He further said: "We do not want a Bangladesh where religious gatherings are shut down for preaching from the Quran and Hadith. We do not want a Bangladesh where microphones are snatched away from scholars while they are speaking. We do not want a Bangladesh where scholars are thrown into prison by pulling them by their beards."

Hasnat Abdullah also said: "We want a Bangladesh where people of every religion can practice their faith freely. We want a Bangladesh where we can all live peacefully under the soothing shade of Islam."
