Students of Narsingdi Textile Engineering College staged a protest on Tuesday, blocking the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Sahepratap area from 11:45am.
The demonstration was sparked by the government’s decision to shut down the college and relocate students to Kalihati Textile Engineering College in Tangail, despite their long-standing demand to bring the institution under the Textile Department from the Handloom Board.
The protesting students called the relocation plan humiliating and said they would not accept the closure of their college.
They demanded that Narsingdi Textile Engineering College be transferred from the Handloom Board to the Textile Department for proper management.
Authorities, including Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Kalim Ullah and Sadar police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Emdadul Haque, were present at the scene.
