A clash erupted between two factions of BNP in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, centering on a preparatory meeting for the party's conference and entry into the party office.
The clash took place in front of the BNP’s upazila office on Saturday at around 12:30pm.
Around 15 to 20 leaders and activists from both sides were injured in the incident.
According to police and local sources, the convenor of the BNP’s preparatory committee for constituencies 2 and 6, MA Muhit, started the meeting at the Shahjadpur upazila BNP office.
During this time, Golam Sarwar, a central leader of BNP’s volunteer wing and a member of the preparatory committee, attempted to enter the party office with his supporters.
However, MA Muhit’s supporters barred them, leading to an altercation that escalated into a physical clash and chase between the two factions.
As a result, Golam Sarwar and around 15 to 20 activists from both groups sustained injuries.
Shahjadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Ali said that a scuffle broke out between the two sides over entry into the BNP office.
Upon receiving information, police quickly intervened and dispersed both groups.
The situation is now under control, added the OC.
