Srimangal in Moulvibazar recorded the lowest temperature of 8.5°C at 9am on Saturday. So far, this is the lowest temperature of the season in Srimangal.
However, despite the drop in temperature, the morning fog was not very dense.
Anisur Rahman, the acting officer of the Srimangal Weather Observation Centre, said: "The lowest temperature recorded in Srimangal today is 8.5°C. The sunlight has made the cold feel slightly less intense."
However, Srimangal has been experiencing severe cold for the past few days. The cold is particularly intense at night, with thick fog.
The extreme cold has put tea garden workers and low-income people in distress. They are forced to leave home very early in the morning despite the cold.
Meanwhile, tourists visiting the scenic town of Srimangal are enjoying the cold weather. They said roaming around in the cold is a different kind of fun.
Ayesha Begum, a private bank officer visiting from Dhaka with her family, said: "I didn't expect it to be this cold here. It's warm in Dhaka. After sunset, the tea garden areas become even colder. However, in the morning, the sun breaks through the fog, making it feel less chilly."
Srimangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Aminul Islam said: "While patrolling at night in the tea garden areas, the cold is extreme. The fog is so dense that visibility is almost zero. Patrol car drivers struggle to drive."
