The Election Commission (EC) held a meeting on the voter list update with regional election officers from the Khulna region on Wednesday afternoon.
The session, aimed at ensuring an accurate and inclusive voter list, took place at the conference room of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s Office. Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah (Retd), an election Commissioner, was the chief guest at the event.
In his address to the attendees, the chief guest emphasized the importance of ensuring voters' rights with utmost honesty and without bias. "It is essential that we work with integrity to guarantee that every eligible citizen has access to their voting rights," he said.
He also underscored the importance of encouraging qualified individuals, particularly women, to be included in the voter list, highlighting the necessity of ensuring that women are not excluded from vital civic services.
Sanaullah further elaborated on the critical role of voter registration, urging the election officers to inform the public about the significance of registering to vote as a fundamental civic duty. "We must ensure that a correct voter list is maintained, as the outcome of elections can be determined by a single vote," he added.
The meeting featured speeches from several distinguished guests, including KM Ali Newaz, additional secretary of the clection commission secretariat, Md Humayun Kabir, the regional election officer of Khulna, and TM Mosharraf Hossain, the police superintendent of Khulna.
The session was chaired by Mohammad Saiful Islam, the deputy commissioner of Khulna. Following the meeting, the Election Commissioner briefed the media on the discussions.
