Family members of those missing after the fire and looting at the Gazi Tyres factory in Rupganj, Narayanganj, staged a protest demanding information about their loved ones.
The protest took place on Wednesday in front of Rupganj Police Station.
Carrying photos of the missing persons, the relatives gathered and demonstrated for nearly two hours in front of the police station.
During this time, Rupganj Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (Investigation), Golam Mostafa, calmed the protesters and eventually dispersed them.
The fire broke out at the Gazi Tyres factory following looting by miscreants on August 25, after the fall of the Awami League government in the wake of a mass uprising by students and the general public.
The fire burned in the factory for five consecutive days.
The factory is owned by Golam Dastagir Gazi, a former minister and member of parliament from the Awami League.
A report by the district administration on September 12 said that 182 people were listed as missing due to the fire.
During Wednesday’s protest, family members of the missing persons said that five months had passed since the fire, but no government agency had been able to provide any information about the missing individuals.
They expressed frustration that the administration had not confirmed whether their loved ones had died in the fire or searched for any remains inside the factory.
Relatives accused the authorities of negligence in finding the missing persons.
Regarding the incident, OC (Investigation) Golam Mostafa stated that an eight-member investigation committee, led by the Additional District Magistrate, had been formed to look into the Gazi Tyres fire.
The committee created a list of 182 missing persons.
The military was involved in the investigation at the time.
He encouraged those whose names might have been missed in the initial list to provide updated information, promising to investigate further.
Previously, on December 29, relatives of the missing individuals blocked the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road in protest.
