The admission test for the first-year honors program at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) is set for Saturday, with a remarkable 23 candidates competing for each seat.
A total of 24,527 candidates have applied for 1,065 available seats, making this year's admission test the most competitive in the university's history.
The exam will be held at 11 venues, including Kuet, from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Mashud shared these details, saying that this year’s number of applicants has surpassed the previous record of 13,100 candidates.
He also said that no mobile phones or electronic devices would be allowed in the exam halls, and candidates will only be permitted entry 30 minutes before the exam starts.
To ensure smooth conduct of the exam, steps have been taken to manage traffic and minimize disruptions.
Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of the Admission Committee, further elaborated on the exam logistics.
The 1,065 seats are spread across 16 departments under the Civil, Electrical and Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering faculties, with five seats reserved for indigenous students.
A 500-mark multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam will take place, with additional drawing tests for B Arch candidates.
The 11 exam centers across Khulna will accommodate candidates, including, Khulna University, Reverend Paul's High School, Hope Polytechnic Institute, Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College, Government Women's College, Bangladesh Navy School and College, Government Model School and College, Government Pioneer Women's College, Government MM City College and Government Sundarban Adarsha College.
With an expected influx of around 100,000 people in Khulna for the test, the vice-chancellor appealed for the cooperation of the local community.
He reminded candidates to arrive at their assigned centers at least one hour before the exam begins, citing traffic congestion as a possible delay.
Strict measures will ensure that candidates can only sit for the test in their designated centers.
