In Faridpur's Madhukhali, miscreants attacked and injured the parents of a journalist and one other person at their village home.

The incident occurred on Friday night around 8:30pm at the Bose residence in Purbo Para of Dumain village, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Operations) Shailen Chakma.

The injured individuals include freedom fighter Shyamlendu Bose, 65, his wife Kakuli Bose, 60, and their teenage neighbor Preeti Malo, 15.

They are currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, according to media reports.

Shyamlendu Bose is the father of Saugata Bose, a correspondent of the daily Ajker Patrika. Saugata is based in Dhaka.

According to the injured, they were watching television at home when they noticed someone inside the house.

When they tried to catch the person, the intruder moved to the second floor.

As Shyamlendu went upstairs, the intruder struck him on the head with a sharp weapon.

When others came to his aid, they were also attacked and injured before the miscreant fled the scene.

Shukla Bose, Saugata's aunt, said: "We live in Faridpur town. Around 8:30pm, they made a video call to me, covered in blood, begging for help. I informed the neighbors, who then rescued them and took them to the hospital."

Saugata Bose said: "Apart from my parents, no one else lives at home. Preeti used to take care of my ailing mother. They are critically injured, so it's hard to explain the whole incident right now. We don't know if there was just one attacker or multiple. We don’t have any known disputes with anyone either."

He added: "This wasn’t a theft. My parents stay up late watching TV. If it were a robbery, why would it happen at that time? Besides, nothing has been stolen. This must have been an attack for some other reason."

Dr Arnab from the Surgery Department of Faridpur Medical College Hospital said: "Shyamlendu Bose has suffered severe head injuries. His skull is fractured, and there has been significant blood loss. He has been advised to be transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. The others' injuries are not as critical."

Jibon Kumar Mandal, a member of Ward 6 of Dumain Union Parishad, said: "Shyamlendu Bose's three sons work in different districts. At home, it's just him, his wife, and a teenage girl who helps care for them. No one else lives there."

He said: "They don’t have any known enemies. It seems the attacker entered to steal and assaulted them when spotted."

Upon receiving the news, police officers, including Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Operations) Shailen Chakma (recently promoted to Superintendent of Police), visited Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Shailen Chakma said: "Initially, it appears the incident happened during a robbery attempt. A 14-15-year-old boy entered the house, and when the homeowners saw him and tried to chase him, they were attacked."

"However, the matter is under further investigation, and legal actions are being taken," said.
