LNG terminal closure to disrupt gas supply from Wednesday

  • Certain areas in the country are expected to experience low gas pressure
  • Suspension for 72 hours
Update : 31 Dec 2024, 01:35 PM

The supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Excelerate Energy's terminal in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, will be halted for three days starting Wednesday, disrupting gas supply across multiple sectors, including power generation.

Additionally, certain areas in the country are expected to experience low gas pressure during this period.

Petrobangla Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Tariqul Islam Khan disclosed this information in a press release on Tuesday.

The statement said LNG supply from the terminal operated by Excelerate Energy would be suspended for 72 hours — from 9am Wednesday to 9am on January 4 — for essential repair and maintenance work.

During this period, the second LNG terminal operated by Summit Group will continue to supply 570–580 million cubic feet of gas daily.

However, gas availability in the power sector will drop by 150–180 million cubic feet per day.

Other sectors will see a reduction of approximately 50–70 million cubic feet per day, leading to low gas pressure in several regions of the country.

Consumers and businesses are advised to prepare for potential disruptions in gas and power supply during this maintenance window.
