An electrical issue near the chemical drum is suspected to be the cause of the incident

Update : 28 Dec 2024, 09:26 PM

At least four workers were burnt in a chemical drum explosion inside Bristol Pharma Limited, a pharmaceutical factory in the Konabari BSCIC Industrial area in Gazipur.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Saturday.

All the injured workers were employed at the factory.

The injured workers are: Redwan Ahmed, 25, son of the late Zahidul Islam from Harinachala, Konabari; Hriday Ahmed Shadhin, 17, son of Delwar Hossain from the same area; Khalid Abdullah, 19, son of Rofiqul Islam from the same area; and Arman Hossain, 22.

Further details about Arman have not been disclosed.

Fire service officials reported that the four workers went to perform ablution when a chemical drum near an electric switch in an adjacent tin-shed room exploded, causing them to sustain burns.

The injured workers were sent to the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Rajib Bhowmik, the plant manager at Bristol Pharma Limited, confirmed the incident, saying that four workers were burnt and have been taken to the hospital.

He added that they are investigating how the incident occurred.

Saiful Islam, the warehouse inspector of Konabari Modern Fire Service, explained that the explosion occurred inside the factory, and the fire service team arrived at the site after receiving the news.

However, the factory’s own fire crew had already extinguished the fire.

It is believed that the explosion may have been caused by an electrical issue near the chemical drum.
