Family of three among five killed as truck hits autorickshaw in Cox’s Bazar

Deceased included six-month-old infant

A head-on collision between a dumper truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw claimed the lives of five people, including a man, his wife and their child, in Pekua upazila, Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday morning.

The deceased included autorickshaw driver Monirul Mannan, Firoz, his wife Sharmin and their six-month-old infant Jahid. The identity of another deceased passenger remains unknown.

According to witnesses, the collision occurred when the autorickshaw, heading from Pekua to Chittagong, was hit by an oncoming dumper truck in the Haji Bazar area. 

The smaller vehicle was completely crushed in the impact.

Pekua police station Officer-in-Charge Md Sirajul Mostafa said the dumper truck had been seized from the scene.
