The "Chiro Unnoto Momo Sheer" and "Swadhinata Square" has been established at the Rangpur Police Lines School and College grounds to honor the legacy of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

This square aims to showcase his songs, poems, essays, and articles, particularly in relation to the 2024 mass uprising and student movements.

The square will be inaugurated on Wednesday by Abdul Hye Sikder, former executive director of the Kabi Nazrul Institute, renowned poet, and Nazrul expert. It is aesthetically designed, featuring a mural of Kazi Nazrul Islam, which incorporates marble stones and tiles.

The mural depicts a famous image of Nazrul wearing a cap, symbolizing his rebellion, commitment to equality, non-communal consciousness, and economic liberation.

Adjacent to the mural are four lines from his poem "Kandari Hushiar," reflecting his democratic ideals.

The mural was created by the students of the Department of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, under the planning of Rangpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin.

The initiative also reflects the collaboration and support of educational figures such as Jahangir Alam, Vice Principal of Police Lines School and College, and A N M Babar Ali, Vice Principal (Administration).

Jahangir Alam emphasized that Kazi Nazrul Islam, as a nationalist poet, has been an inspiration for the independence movement and continues to be celebrated in Bangladesh as the national poet.

His works were a significant influence during the July-August Revolution, and the establishment of Swadhinata Square aims to present his work to the new generation in a meaningful way.

Professor Dr KM Jalal Uddin Akbar, Principal of Police Lines School and College, expressed that the square and its surrounding initiatives will serve as a new platform for the study and practice of Nazrul's works, aiming to further promote his ideals among students, teachers, and the broader community.

Superintendent Mohammad Sharif Uddin noted that Kazi Nazrul Islam’s writings—against discrimination, for non-communalism, and for the rights of the oppressed—remain ever-relevant and will continue to inspire future generations.

The establishment of this square is not only a tribute to Nazrul’s contributions but also an effort to cultivate a deeper understanding of his work among students and citizens, ultimately fostering a society free from discrimination and exploitation.

Abdul Hye Sikder, while reflecting on Nazrul’s enduring relevance, thanked the initiative by Rangpur Police Lines School and College for helping introduce Nazrul to a new generation, reaffirming the poet's powerful role in the cultural and revolutionary history of Bangladesh.
