  • Slams Indian media for spreading anti-Bangladesh propaganda

Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, has emphasized the importance of building relationships with neighbouring countries, including India, on the basis of mutual respect and fairness.

Speaking to reporters at the National Martyr's Memorial in Savar on Monday, on Victory Day, Saki acknowledged that while neighbours cannot be changed, these relationships must uphold national dignity and just principles.

Referring to past practices, he criticized how a particular political party compromised national interests to secure its hold on power, branding such actions as detrimental to the nation’s sovereignty.

He said the July uprising of students, workers, and the general public has delivered a clear message that Bangladesh will no longer accept a subservient stance.

"We want the world to know that Bangladesh will not bow down. It will build relationships with other countries based on dignity and national interest. As a close neighbour, we also wish to maintain a good relationship with India on that foundation."

Commending the interim government’s communication with Indian authorities after the uprising, Saki noted a shift in India’s approach, with a growing focus on dialogue and diplomacy.

However, he criticized certain segments of the Indian media for spreading propaganda, particularly claims about the safety of women and minorities in Bangladesh.

Regarding the Indian media’s propaganda, Saki said: “We must fight with the truth. We need to involve Bangladeshis at home and abroad in this effort. The country’s media must expose the truth and combat disinformation in every way possible.”

He continued: “We have demanded justice for the atrocities committed during the 1971 Liberation War. Similarly, in 2024, to maintain power, the fascist regime killed innocent people. The indiscriminate killings that occurred must also be brought to justice. Fair justice will be the strongest pillar of the journey towards a new Bangladesh."

"However, there are some flaws and irregularities. The cases being filed are reminiscent of old practices, which could raise questions about their transparency. We must ensure that the sacrifices and struggles of 2024 are not in vain and that the aspirations of the people are fulfilled.”
