A faction of the BNP held a motorcade in Gopalganj city, marking their return to political activity just two days after reopening their district office after 17 long years.
They paraded through various streets of the city to assert their presence on Sunday.
This motorcade, led by former district BNP president Sirajul Islam Siraj, started at 11am from his village home in Sadar Upazila. The procession traveled through key locations, including the offices of the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, before concluding at Gatepara after traversing different streets of the city.
Speaking in front of the deputy commissioner's office, Sirajul Islam Siraj said that they were unable to carry out political activities during the previous government's tenure. Now, they see an opportunity to engage in healthy politics and aim to work for the people, reflecting their hopes and aspirations.
Sirajul Islam Siraj was the BNP candidate in the 2018 parliamentary election.
He expressed hope that the BNP would nominate him again for the Gopalganj-2 constituency in the upcoming national election.
The Gopalganj unit of the BNP inaugurated its office in the district on Friday.
The opening took place in a tin-roofed house at Gatepara in the town, and former president of Gopalganj BNP Sirajul Islam Siraj officiated the event as chief guest.
Gopalganj, the birthplace of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has long been considered an Awami League stronghold.
The inauguration comes around four months after the ouster of the Awami League regime through a mass uprising.
Afterwards, leaders and activists of the party distributed leaflets containing the BNP's 31-point outline for reforms among the attendees.
