Workers of Beximco Industrial Park on Saturday staged demonstration over unpaid wages in Sarabo area of Gazipur.

Workers refused to leave without payment assurance.

On the other hand, The TNZ Apparel factory in Gazipur's Mogorkhal area, which had been closed for 23 days due to worker unrest over wages, reopened.

Workers started returning to work on Saturday morning after the management and the labour ministry fulfilled their promise to pay wages on Thursday evening.

According to factory authorities and workers, TNZ Apparels Limited Group has five factories in Mogorkhal, Gazipur.

Workers had staged several protests and blockades on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway over unpaid wages.

Most recently, they blocked the highway from 9am last Saturday until 10pm Monday for three consecutive days.

After payments were made on Thursday, a notice was posted that the factory would reopen on Saturday. Workers complied and joined work accordingly.

Sharifa Begum, one of the workers, said that there is no dissatisfaction now, and everyone joined work with sincerity. She described the atmosphere at work as joyful, like celebrating Eid, and thanked the factory owners and others for restoring the work environment.

Executive Director Maksudul Rahman Chowdhury said that despite the recent unrest over unpaid wages, workers returned to work on Saturday after payments were settled. He expressed gratitude to the labour ministry secretary, local administration, BGB, police, and journalists for their support in restoring a peaceful environment.

Bason police station OC Md Rahedul Islam confirmed that the TNZ Group workers resumed work on Saturday morning, and the situation in the factories remains peaceful.

Meanwhile, in the Sarabo area under Kashimpur police station, workers of Beximco Industrial Park blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar highway, demanding unpaid wages for October.

Industrial police said that Beximco Industrial Park has around 40,000 workers in its garment and ceramics factories.

The garment workers blocked the road, demanding last month's unpaid wages, while industrial police tried to calm the situation.

Workers said they would not leave the highway without a clear assurance of payment.

Kashimpur police station OC Saiful Islam reported that garment workers began their protest and blockade on the Chandra-Nabinagar road at around 8:45am on Saturday.

The blockade continued until late afternoon, causing inconvenience to passengers and drivers and creating traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
