At least five people were injured after a refrigerator exploded at a roadside shop in Sylhet city.
The blast occurred in Sheikhghat area around 9pm on Wednesday.
Witnesses said the refrigerator of the shop named “Shaad & Co’ exploded with a big bang, leaving five people including a pedestrian injured.
Of them, the shop’s staff, Emon, 18, was admitted to the Burn Unit of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Mohammad Fakhruddin, a relative of shop’s owner, said that they visited the hospital after hearing about the incident. He confirmed that none of the injured were in serious condition, and all were receiving medical treatment.
Moniruzzaman, deputy director of Sylhet Fire Service, confirmed they had received reports of the fridge explosion at Sheikhghat. As the situation was under control, their team did not need to respond.
Kotwali Model police staton Officer-in-Charge Md Ziaul Haque said locals doused the fire before the Fire Service personnel had arrived. The incident happened due to the explosion of the refrigerators’ compressors, reports UNB.
