Bangladeshi youth killed by Indian Khasia at Sylhet Border

Rescued as bullet-hit injured from the border and taken to local hospital where duty doctor declared him dead

A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by Indian Khasia people at the border in the Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday. 

The deceased was identified as Jamir Ahmad, son of Abdul Mannan from Ghilatail village in the Nijpat Union of Jaintapur.

The incident occurred near the international main pillar no 1286-1287, in the Tiprakhla-Ghilatail area along the Bangladesh-India border in the afternoon. 

Locals reported that Jamir Ahmad was injured by gunfire from the Khasia people while attempting to cross the border illegally into India.

He was later rescued by locals and taken to the Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model police station, Abul Basar Mohammad Badruzaman, confirmed the news, saying that legal action has been taken.

The body was sent to Osmani Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

The police were informed that the youth died from gunshot wounds inflicted by the Khasia, said the OC.
