Chittagong University student's hanging body found

The hanging body of a Chittagong University student was found hanging in her rented residence near the university's South Campus on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Tajrian Ahmed Sowara, 21, daughter of Shamim Ahmed.Tajrian, a second-year Economics student, was from Matuail, Dhaka

The university's proctorial body, along with police, recovered her body from a single-story house where she had been staying. A note was reportedly found beside her body.

According to university sources, the residence belongs to Prof Md Abdul Mannan, provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and a Chemistry Department faculty member.

The professor lives on one side of the house, while Tajrian and two other female students shared a three-room flat on the other side. Her body was recovered from the eastern room of this flat.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Mohammad Abu Tayeb confirmed that the body was found hanging with a note beside it.

Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid, who was present at the scene, said that they arrived around 8am with police and two doctors after being notified. They had to break down the door to retrieve her body.

According to her classmates, Tajrian had been reportedly struggling with family-related depression in recent days.

The university has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
