The Joypurhat district administration has imposed Section 144 as two factions of the BNP called for rallies at the same location and time.
This order will remain effective across the entire Sadar upazila from 8am to 8pm on Friday.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Mahuddin Jahangir issued the order for Section 144 on Thursday.
According to the district administration and local sources, the Joypurhat Municipal and Sadar Thana BNP are holding a conference on Friday.
Allegations arose that Gulzar Hossain, convener of the district unit BNP, and Masud Rana, joint convener, excluded members of another faction loyal to Municipal BNP Convener Motiur Rahman.
In protest, Motiur Rahman’s faction called for a counter-demonstration, holding a protest in the district town on October 29, followed by a torch procession on October 30 evening, and a road rally on Thursday.
They have also announced plans to oppose the conference of the Municipal and Sadar Thana BNP on Friday.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Mahuddin Jahangir said: “Both BNP factions have scheduled programs at the same location and time, raising concerns over potential law and order issues and possible harm to public safety. Thus, Section 144 has been imposed in Sadar Upazila.”
