Fisherman dies after jumping off boat during mobile court drive

Incident occurred during a mobile court drive enforcing fishing ban in Meghna River

A fisherman named Nayan Bepari died after he jumped off his fishing boat in mid-river during a mobile court drive in Barisal on Monday.

The incident took place when the local authorities were carrying out a raid in the Meghna River to check whether boats were flouting an ongoing fishing ban. 

The deceased was a resident of the Baushia area of ​​Barajalia Union Parishad.  

Local sources said Nayan and his son went fishing in the river on Sunday night. When they saw the mobile team approaching, Nayan jumped off the boat and broke his left rib.

Farid rescued him and took him to Hijla Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. 

Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Hijla police station, confirmed the matter. 

The body was sent to the morgue of Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
