Ninety Bangladeshi fishermen and crew members detained in India have been handed over to Bangladeshi authorities.
The handover took place on Sunday afternoon, and the fishermen and crew are expected to reach Chittagong by Monday noon.
According to a press release issued by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exchange occurred at the western international maritime boundary on Sunday afternoon.
Simultaneously, 95 Indian fishermen and crew members detained in Bangladesh were handed over to Indian authorities.
Additionally, eight seized vessels were returned to their respective countries, including Bangladesh’s FV Laila-2 and FV Meghna-5.
Following the formalities, the Bangladeshi fishermen and crew members began their journey to Chittagong under the supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
Family members will receive them upon their arrival in Chittagong on Monday.
Lieutenant Sakib Mehboob, the media officer of the Eastern Coast Guard, said “We have received 90 individuals from the Indian Coast Guard. They will be brought to the Patenga Coast Guard Station at 3pm on Monday. After completing legal procedures, they will be handed over to the vessel owners.”
