The body of a local Awami League leader has been found three days after he went missing in Mirsharai of Chittagong.

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher Bhuiyan, 52.

The body was recovered from a field in Sadar union on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, Abu Taher left home on Tuesday to go to the market but never returned.

His wife, Selina Akter, filed a General Diary at Mirsharai police station the following day.

Abu Taher, son of the late Mojibur Haque, served as vice-president of Ward 3 Awami League. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, and one son.

The deceased’s nephew, Mehedi Hasan, said: “Since August 5, an individual from a neighboring area had been issuing threats to my uncle. His mobile phone was last tracked to the Jafarabad Cluster Village area after he went missing."

"On Friday morning, local children discovered his body in a cane field. We identified it as my uncle's body. We believe he was abducted and killed in a planned manner and we demand justice,” he added.

Mirsharai police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Azizul Hakim, who is investigating the case, said that the body was recovered from the Jamal’s Shop area and has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Taher’s brother, Ridwan, has filed a written complaint regarding the incident. Police reported no visible injuries on the body, and the exact cause of death will be determined following the autopsy.
