Locals brought out a broom procession demanding the resignation of the Bagerhat district civil surgeon for ending his speech with the “Joy Bangla” slogan.
The protest was organized under the “People of Bagerhat” banner, led by former secretary general of the district Jubo Dal, Sujauddin Mollah Sujan.
During the protest, the angry crowd chanted various slogans demanding the resignation and trial of the civil surgeon. The march concluded in front of the Bagerhat Press Club after circling several streets, where a roadside meeting was held.
At the meeting, Sujauddin Mollah Sujan said: "The civil surgeon must resign immediately. Otherwise, we will surround the civil surgeon’s office on Sunday morning."
On Thursday morning, District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Jalal Uddin Ahmed addressed a vaccination program against HPV, which causes cervical cancer, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahmed Kamrul Ahsan.
He concluded his speech with the "Joy Bangla" slogan, which has since gone viral on social media.
