Update : 16 Oct 2024, 08:11 PM

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated two separate legal cases against Mohiuddin Ahmed, also known as Mohi, and his wife, Noorjahan Begum.

Mohiuddin is the former chairman of Bangladesh Cooperative Bank Limited and a joint general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League South.

The charges include the illegal acquisition of assets totaling approximately Tk4 crore and the concealment of information regarding these assets.

On Wednesday, the ACC's Dhaka integrated district office, led by Deputy Director Jahangir Alam, filed the cases.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the developments.

According to the first case findings, Mohiuddin Ahmed submitted a statement of assets that included both movable and immovable properties valued at Tk3,97,79,333.

However, during the verification process, evidence surfaced indicating he concealed assets worth Tk1 crore.

Furthermore, the ACC investigation revealed an additional Tk2,70,63,098 in assets beyond his declared income.

In the second case, Noorjahan Begum has been accused of amassing assets amounting to Tk14,70,565, with evidence also showing that she amassed wealth of Tk1,19,64,802 that exceeds her known income.

The cases against both individuals have been filed under sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.

This is not the first legal trouble for Mohiuddin Ahmed.

Previously, on February 16, 2021, he faced allegations involving the embezzlement of Tk11 crore in gold collected from customers, although those charges were later dropped in the charge sheet.
