Two young men have reportedly died due to alcohol poisoning in Shalikha upazila of Magura.
They are Sabuj Das, 22, son of Monoranjan Das, and Diganta Ghosh, 25, son of Shriram Ghosh, both from the village of Dhaneshwargati.
On Monday night, they consumed alcohol at home and also participated in a dance at a nearby house.
Later that night, both Sabuj and Diganta fell ill.
They initially received local treatment, but as their condition worsened, they were admitted to hospitals in Jessore and Magura.
Sabuj died at Jessore Hospital early Tuesday morning, while Diganta passed away at Magura Sadar Hospital in the afternoon.
Their bodies have been placed in the morgue for autopsy, according to police reports.
Sabuj and Diganta were labourers and residents of Dhaneshwargati.
A relative of Sabuj, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they received local treatment after becoming ill from drinking and were taken to the hospital only when their condition deteriorated.
Krishnapad Biswas, a doctor in the emergency department at Magura Sadar Hospital, confirmed that they were admitted after becoming ill from excessive drinking, leading to one death in the hospital and the other after being transferred to Jessore.
Shalikhah police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oli Miah said that they have received information about one death due to alcohol consumption, while the circumstances of the second death are unclear.
An investigation is underway, and both bodies will undergo autopsies.
The exact cause of death will be determined after the report is received.
