A boy died in a boat collision during the immersion of idols during Durga Puja in the Jhinai River in Kalihati, Tangail, on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased, Apu Pal, 12, hailed from South Betdoba village of the upazila.
The incident occurred in the Kalihati Old Police Station Ghat area.
Kalihati police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Bhuiyan said that as in previous years, locals were travelling by boats before immersing idols in the river.
Around 4pm, due to high speed, two boats collided, leaving Apu and several others injured, the officer added.
With the help of locals, the injured were taken to the Kalihati Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Apu dead.
After completing legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family, the OC said.
