Police have arrested three more people in a case filed over the killing of two individuals during unrest in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
On Wednesday, the Rangamati police arrested a youth named Mohammad Jalal,25, from Chandpur in connection with Anik Chakma's murder.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, the police conducted an operation in the Vedvedi area of Rangamati city and apprehended two more youths, Anupam Chakma,25, and Sajib Chakma,27, on charges of arson and vandalism.
When the arrested individuals were presented before Senior Judicial Magistrate Swarnakamal Sen's court on Wednesday afternoon, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.
The OC of Rangamati Kotwali police station, Mohammad Saheed Uddin, confirmed the arrests.
On September 18, a youth named Mamun was killed in Khagrachari, leading to communal clashes in Rangamati on September 20.
During the clashes, another youth named Anik was beaten to death.
Following this incident, two cases were filed at the Rangamati Kotwali police station for arson, vandalism, and murder.
After the cases were registered, the police launched operations to apprehend the criminals.
On Friday, in connection with Anik's murder, the police had arrested a youth named Mohammad Rubel from the Manikchhari Upazila of Khagrachari, and on Saturday, they arrested another youth named Mohammad Abrar from Rangamati city.
In connection with the arson and vandalism incidents, the police also arrested two youths named Mohammad Ariful and Mohammad Rakib from the district town on October 5.
