The highest rainfall of 250mm was recorded in the Jaria Jhanjail area in Netrokona

Update : 06 Oct 2024, 10:17 AM

Due to the influence of monsoon rains and flash floods from upstream, at least 20,000 people in 15 villages across four unions in the Durgapur upazila of Netrokona have been stranded by floodwaters.

According to the Water Development Board (WDB), the highest rainfall in the country over the last 24 hours was recorded at 250mm in the Jaria Jhanjail area, with 186mm recorded in Durgapur.

Although the water levels of the main rivers, Someshwari and Kangsa, remain below the danger mark, they are rising slowly.

Meanwhile, with water entering the riverside villages, the 20,000 people are now facing a shortage of food and clean water.

Upon receiving the news, Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas visited the affected areas on the afternoon of Saturday.

During the visit, she toured various villages in Kakoirgora Union and distributed dry food, rice, and water purification tablets to over a hundred people.
