Lightning strikes claim seven lives in Sylhet, Sunamganj

Three fatalities reported in Sylhet, four in Sunamganj

Seven people died due to lightning strikes across Sylhet and Sunamganj on Sunday, with three fatalities reported in Sylhet and four in Sunamganj.

In Sylhet's Sadar upazila, farmer Ansar Ali was killed by a lightning strike, along with Masuk Ahmed in Companiganj and Redwan Ahmed, 19, a student at MC College in Bishwanath.

In Sunamganj, four individuals lost their lives in separate incidents. Jalal Mia, 30, Jasim Uddin, 28, Sharif Mia, 35, and Sundar Ali, 70, were among the victims.

According to Md Zakir Hossain, additional superintendent of police in Sunamganj, the four victims died while fishing in a haor during a storm. Additionally, another person was electrocuted in Bishwambharpur.

Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahporan police station, Rubel Mia, OC of Bishwanath police station, and Uzzayer Al Mahmud Adnan, OC of Companiganj police station, confirmed one death each in their respective areas due to the lightning strikes.
