The Khoiyachora Waterfall in Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong has been temporarily closed following the death of a bank official due to falling of a rock on him.
The Forest Department announced the closure on Saturday evening, citing the need for renovation work.
S M Kaiser, deputy conservator of Forests and divisional forest officer of the Chittagong North Forest Division, confirmed that only the Khoiyachora Waterfall is affected by the closure.
Other waterfalls within Baraiadhala National Park remain open to the public.
The Forest Department has urged tourists to ensure they are accompanied by a Forest Department employee or a certified guide when visiting the waterfall.
S M Kaiser said: "Due to ongoing bad weather and renovation efforts, Khoiyachara waterfall has been temporarily closed. Earlier, a bank official tragically died after being struck by a falling rock at the site. The unstable rocks are being removed, and the work, which started today, may take two to four days to complete."
He added: "While Khoiyachora remains closed, other waterfalls are still open. We request visitors to travel with our staff or licensed guides for their safety."
Earlier, on September 27, six officials from One Bank's Kawran Bazar head office visited the Khoyachara waterfall. While bathing near the waterfall, stones suddenly fell from above, killing Mahbub Hasan on the spot. Another official, Gazi Ahmed bin Shams, was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
