At least five people have been abudcted in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar in two separate incidents.
Four passengers taken from three CNG auto-rickshaws on the Hwaikyong-Shamlapur road, while a young man named Atiqur Rahman was kidnapped from the Hnila Nakmura area, with the captors demanding a ransom of Tk50 lakh.
The incidents occurred on Friday evening when armed assailants stopped the CNGs at a location known as Kudhumi Cave.
Local residents and police from the Baharchhara investigation center responded quickly, successfully rescuing four individuals from the vehicle.
The rescued individuals include: Anwarul Islam, CNG driver from Hwaikyong Daingyakata, Jafar Alam from Zhimgankhali, Mohammad Abdullah from Baharchhara, passenger Mohammad Selim.
The identities of the remaining kidnapped individuals have not yet been confirmed.
Baharchhara police station Inspector Samir Rahman said: "Eight passengers were caught by the robbers at Kudum Cave. Four were taken away, but we promptly rescued four others from the scene. Efforts to locate the remaining hostages are ongoing."
In a separate incident, Atiqur Rahman was abducted in Hnila Nakmura, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding a ransom of Tk50 lakh.
Local UP member Mohammad Ali said: "The kidnappers have contacted the victim's son, asking for the ransom. We have informed the police about this situation."
