The bodies of a father and his daughter were recovered nearly 24 hours after they went missing while he was teaching her to swim in the Dhaleshwari River in Manikganj.
The bodies were found in the Baira Kheyaghat in Singair upazila of Manikganj district around 8am on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Mahidur Rahman, a businessman, and his daughter Rafa Akhter, an 11-year-old sixth-grader at Baira High School.
According to local sources, on Wednesday morning, Mahidur took Rafa to the river in the morning to teach her how to swim.
At one stage, Rafa drowned in the river. Mahidur also went missing while trying to save his daughter.
Upon receiving the news, a unit from the Singair Fire Service, along with a diving team from the Aricha Fire Station, arrived to conduct a rescue operation. Despite extensive searching, they were unable to find the bodies by Wednesday evening.
Md Shahjahan, a member of Ward No. 3 of Baira Union Parishad, said that locals joined the fire service and diving team in the search. However, it wasn’t until Thursday morning that they found the bodies.
