An indefinite transport strike in Rangamati has been withdrawn.
Mizanur Rahman Babu, general secretary of the Rangamati Auto Rickshaw Workers' Union, confirmed the matter on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Rahim Uddin Akash, general secretary of the Rangamati Truck Owners Association, said a meeting was held this evening at the deputy commissioner's office with the leaders of the Rangamati Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council.
He said that the DC assured them of meeting their demands, which led to the withdrawal of the transport strike.
On the other hand, Mizanur Rahman Babu said the DC has committed to taking responsibility for the treatment of the drivers injured in the attack and providing compensation for the damaged vehicles.
It is worth noting that the transport strike was called by the Rangamati Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council in protest against vandalism of buses, CNGs, and trucks, as well as the injuries to workers during clashes.
They stated that 10 trucks, three buses, and numerous auto-rickshaws were vandalized, resulting in seven drivers being seriously injured.
On Friday night, the Rangamati Transport Owners Association announced that the transport strike would commence on Saturday morning.
Additionally, in connection with the incident in Dighinala, Khagrachhari, a clash occurred in Rangamati on Friday, resulting in one death and injuries to 53 individuals from both sides.
Several vehicles were vandalized, and there were attacks on mosques and Buddhist temples, as well as arson in shops. To control the situation, the district magistrate imposed Section 144 in Rangamati city for an indefinite period.
