A peace meeting was organized in Rangamati in response to recent violent incidents, involving officials from various departments, local representatives, prominent figures, journalists, and representatives from different religious institutions.

The event took place on Sunday afternoon in the conference hall of the district council, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan.

During the meeting, participants emphasized the need to bring to justice those responsible for the recent communal violence between the hill people and Bengali communities.

Key decisions included the installation of CCTV cameras in important areas of the district town, forming committees for community safety, restructuring the law and order committee, and informing the public about the withdrawal of Section 144 through announcements.

A decision was also made to prohibit gatherings in front of the district administration office and to establish a military camp in the Banrupa area.

It was reported during the meeting that a case had been filed regarding the murders. Additionally, the meeting decided to provide compensation to the families of the victims and support for affected businesses.

The meeting, which began at 3pm, continued until 6:30pm.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Hossain Khan said that peace rallies will soon be held at five key points in the town, including Banrupa, Tablachhari, Reserve Bazar, College Gate, and Vhedvhedi.

He said that the military zone commander is aware of the need for a military camp in Banrupa and will take action accordingly.

He also urged the police superintendent to take legal action against those spreading rumours on social media, labelling it as a crime.

Earlier that day, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan, along with newly appointed Police Superintendent Dr SM Farhad Hossain and Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ershad Hossain, the commander of the Rangamati sector, conducted an on-site inspection of the areas affected by the clashes.

During the visit, the deputy commissioner spoke directly with affected individuals, promising to compile a thorough investigation report to be submitted to the ministry.
