The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) police have arrested an Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) commander in the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, with a foreign-made G3 rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition.
The arrest took place during an operation on Thursday night in the 13th Tajnimarakhola Rohingya camp in the Palongkhali union of the upazila.
The arrestee has been identified as Nurul Islam, a resident of Block A in the 13th camp.
He is a commander of the militant group Arsa, said APBn-8 Additional DIG Md Amir Jafar at a press conference.
He said they received a tip-off that a Arsa group was hiding at a place within the 13th camp.
Later, they conducted a raid at the mentioned hideout in the Tajnimarakhola Rohingya camp on Thursday night, where they arrested Arsa commander Nurul Islam and recovered the arms and ammunition.
Arrested Nurul Islam has been handed over to the Ukhiya police station, and a case has been filed against him there.
