A group of miscreants attacked and vandalized the grave of Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal, a former Member of Parliament for Chittagong-8 and a leader of a faction of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD), and set it on fire.
The incident occurred at the family graveyard in the village of West Sarwatli, Ahmedullah Khan's residence, in Boalkhali Upazila around 4pm on Tuesday
Badal’s younger brother, Kamal Uddin Khan Mukul, stated that a group of attackers arrived in a microbus, attacked the grave, and vandalized it.
They then set the constructed grave on fire before fleeing the scene.
Boalkhali police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Golam Sarwar, confirmed the matter.
An investigation is underway regarding the attack on the late MP Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal's grave, which included vandalism of the constructed grave.
The police have visited the scene following the report.
No formal complaint has been lodged with the police so far, but the matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Selina Khan, Badal’s wife, posted pictures of the incident on social media.
She wrote: "A group of terrorists came today around noon in a vehicle and vandalized and set fire to Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal's ancestral grave. Even after death, a person cannot find peace in their grave."
Selina Khan also mentioned: “The attackers came in a vehicle, destroyed the trees, gate, and nameplate at the graveyard, and then set the grave on fire before fleeing. We were not present at the time. We have informed the police about the incident and demand a proper investigation and justice for those responsible.”
He was elected as an MP thrice from Chittagong-8 constituency. He was known as a great orator in parliament.
Badal, who was involved with Bangladesh Chhatra League in his student days, actively took part in the liberation war.
He was one of the key persons who tried to prevent offloading of firearms at Chittagong port during the war.
Badal died on November 7, 2019.
