A devastating fire broke out at a jute mill in Bhuyapur of Tangail, causing an estimated loss of around Tk2 crore.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the Jamuna Food Officer Industry Jute Mill in the Sirajkandi area of Nikrail Union.

The fire was brought completely under control by the fire service members at 6:10pm.

According to the mill workers, the mill was closed for the day, and no one was inside.

A few workers were outside and they noticed a burning smell around 1:30pm. They discovered the fire and tried to extinguish it but were unsuccessful. The fire service team arrived and managed to control the blaze.

Sajedur Rahman, the mill's administrative manager, stated that they received news of the fire around 2pm. Security guards and workers reported a burning smell from inside the mill.

They found the fire and promptly informed the Bhuyapur Fire Service, which quickly responded to the scene.

Rahman further mentioned that the fire destroyed jute bags, cloth, six loom machines, and the repair room, causing damage estimated between Tk1.5 to Tk2 crore.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Swapan Ali, leader of the Bhuyanpur Fire Service, said they arrived at the scene quickly and managed to control the fire within 20 minutes.

The damage is estimated at approximately Tk2 crore, and the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

The firefighting operations were concluded by evening.

Motaleb Sarker, Chairman of Jamuna Food Officer Industry, said that as it was a holiday, no employees were present at the mill.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamunur Rashid confirmed that the fire service had controlled the blaze, but the exact extent of the damage is still being assessed.
