Altercation among coordinators cancels Sarjis’s event in Narsingdi

The disagreement arose from conflicting venue preferences between the two groups

Update : 09 Sep 2024, 07:53 PM

Sarjis Alam, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, could not attend the event in Narsingdi despite arriving to meet families of those killed in the movement and participate in a discussion against terrorism, extortion, and corruption due to disputes among coordinators.

He arrived in Narsingdi with a 10-member team by noon and began internal meetings with local coordinators.

However, a dispute arose between two groups of coordinators over the venue for the event—Satiropur or Narsingdi Government College ground. Unable to resolve the disagreement, the event was postponed at 5 p.m., and Sargis left Narsingdi without attending.

The students and attendees who had gathered at the Satiropur venue expressed their disappointment.

Multiple sources indicated that Sarjis will return to Narsingdi if the two local groups reconcile.

Alfie, a coordinator from Narsingdi, mentioned that internal issues caused the delay, but a meeting is expected within the next 10 days.

Local teacher and activist Balak Russell noted that the disagreement arose from conflicting venue preferences between the two groups.

The initially crowded venue with around 5,000 attendees saw a significant turnout of students and people from various professions before the postponement announcement, leaving many disappointed.
