The bodies of two out of four missing workers have been recovered following a boat capsize in the Padma River in Paba upazila of Rajshahi.
The bodies were found by locals at around 10pm on Monday in the Charkhanpur area.
The deceased were Raju, 21, and Mohammad Ali, 30, both from Char Majardia.
Earlier, at about 8pm on Sunday, the boat, carrying 16 passengers, capsized due to strong currents.
While 12 workers managed to swim ashore, four went missing.
All the passengers on the boat were residents of Char Majardia village.
Humayun Kabir, member of ward No 1 of Haripur union, said the workers were returning from the city after work.
“They were in a dinghy boat heading towards Char Majardia when the boat sank near the shore. The boat was carrying 16 workers, 12 of whom swam to safety.”
Abu Sama, senior station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence, said a diving team had been dispatched to the scene but the strong currents had made it impossible for the team to continue its search.
The rescue operation was suspended on Monday afternoon, the official added.
