The flood situation in Comilla is showing significant improvement due to recent favourable conditions. The district has not experienced heavy rainfall in the past few days, and the inflow of water from upstream areas in India has decreased. As a result, the floodwaters in the region are receding.
The Gumti River, which had been a major concern, is now flowing normally. Early reports from Friday morning indicate that the water flow has stabilized.
Additionally, the leakage through the damaged section of the dam at Buruburiya is diminishing, leading to a reduction in water levels in the Burichong, Brahmanpara upazila and further improvement in the flood situation.
The southern parts of Comilla, including Laksam, Monohorgonj and Chauddagram upazilas, are also experiencing a decrease in floodwater levels. According to the district administration, approximately 1,078,000 people remain stranded due to the flooding. Over 78,000 individuals have sought refuge in 724 shelters, where 225 medical teams are providing necessary care.
In response to the crisis, the district administration has allocated Tk39 lakh and 800 tons of rice for relief efforts.
Additionally, the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management has provided 1,600 tons of rice and Tk25 lakh for the affected areas.
Relief operations are underway, with various organizations and volunteers distributing aid to those in need. The situation is steadily improving as the community comes together to address the impacts of the flood.
