Four people died in a fire set by an angry mob at the house of Member of Parliament Shafiqul Islam Shimul of Natore-2 (Sadar and Naldanga) Constituency.

The bodies were found in several rooms, balconies, and roofs of the MP’s house, named “Jannati Palace,” in the city on Tuesday morning.

The body of a college student named Akib Hossain, 17, was first found around 7:30am. He was an 11th-grade student at Natore City College. His father, Delwar Hossain, is the principal of the same college and a former secretary of Zilla Jamaat. Recently, Delwar was arrested and is currently in jail.

The other three deceased are Siam Hossain, 18, Yasin Ali, 18, and Shariful Islam Mohan, 27.

According to witnesses and local residents, after hearing the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation from the post of Prime Minister, an angry crowd set fire to the house of MP Shafiqul on Monday afternoon.

Next to the house, a five-story building belonging to his younger brother and the old house of the MP were also set on fire. Looting continued in all three houses. A young man trapped in the parliament member's house was rescued by the crowd and brought to Sadar Hospital. He was later sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

A day after this incident, the bodies of Akib and the others were recovered from inside the house Tuesday morning.

The deceased Akib's uncle, Tuhin Islam, said that on Monday afternoon, Akib left home for the city and had been missing since then. A woman saw the body lying on the balcony of the third floor while visiting the burnt house of MP Shafiqul Islam on Tuesday morning.

Upon hearing the news, family members went to the site and identified the body as Akib's.

At one point, the other bodies were found lying on the floor of a room on the second floor.

Natore Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman told Prothom Alo that he did not know anything about this incident.

He said they were trying to find out more but, unfortunately, they could not leave the police station.
