Update : 02 Aug 2024, 11:16 PM

Hundreds of students and guardians took part in protest processions and held a rally in Bogra town, defying rain on Friday.

They chanted slogans for realizing the nine-point demand and demanding resignation of the government. The rally at Satmatha was led by BNP leaders while many activists of the banned Jamaat-Shibir were also present.

Sadar police station Inspector (Investigation) Shahinuzzaman Shahin said no untoward incident occurred as the law enforcers played a silent role.

As per the pre-announced program, the protesters visited the graves of the dead, and prayed for the injured and arrested leaders and activists at various mosques.

Later, a large number of students and parents gathered at several places in the city, including Jaleshwaritola and Katnarpara, ignoring the rain after Jumma prayers. Then they came together at Satmatha, the zero point of the city.

Police members took position at a safe distance. At that time, army and BGB members were not seen there.

Advocate Abdul Bached, vice president of the BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Lawyers’ Forum, led the rally at Satmatha. District Mahila Dal Joint General Secretary Suraiya Jerin Roni and some other leaders and activists of the BNP and affiliated organizations were present. Many leaders and activists of the banned Jamaat-Shibir also attended the rally. After about two hours of siege of Satmatha, the protestors left the place.
