Protesting students at Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday found sharp local weapons from rooms of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall during their demonstrations for quota reform.
The weapons were found in room 208 on the second floor of the first block and several rooms on the third floor of the hall.
The students handed over the discovered weapons to the university's proctor and student advisor.
According to eyewitnesses, some students from the quota reform movement entered Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall from a protest march around 11am on Wednesday.
The protesters broke into rooms 207 and 208 on the second floor of the hall’s first block, known as the Political Block, and recovered more than five locally-made sharp weapons.
During this time, the agitated students vandalized some belongings in the rooms and threw some items out of the building.
While handing over the weapons, Professor Zahangir Alam Saud, university's student advisor, said: "We were always vigilant to ensure no harm comes to our students. However, the issue of these weapons is something the university administration never wants. The weapons found today will be handed over to the police."
On Tuesday, protesting students also vandalized the rooms of the president and general secretary of the university’s Bangladesh Chhatra League unit in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and recovered a pistol and local weapons.
