The administration has relaxed the travel ban for tourists in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban.
Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mamun confirmed this information on Saturday afternoon.
The travel ban in Thanchi has been lifted after being in place for more than two and a half months following a bank robbery by the armed organization Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) in the hills.
However, travel bans remain in place in Rowangchhari and Ruma upazilas.
Thanchi upazila administration said that this decision was made after a meeting with law enforcement agencies and all tourism-related parties on Saturday morning.
Thanchi UNO said that tourists will be able to visit tourist spots approved by the local administration from Sunday. The decision was made in a meeting on Saturday morning with representatives from law enforcement agencies, public representatives, hotel owners' associations, and tourist guides' associations.
He further mentioned that tourists can visit the tourist spots of Thindu's Boro Pathor, Remakri, and Tama Tungi. For safety reasons, they can not go beyond these spots. Representatives of the guide association have been informed about where tourists can and can not go.
Thanchi tourist guide Mongé Sa Marma informed that the guide association has been notified about the reopening of tourism. They are committed to providing services to all tourists who come to visit.
On April 2 and 3, following incidents of bank robbery and weapon looting in Ruma and Thanchi, the administration imposed travel bans in Rowangchhari, Ruma, and Thanchi. Although the ban has been lifted in Thanchi after two and a half months, the bans remain in Roangchhari and Ruma upazila.
